For the past several years, we’ve been in a severe drought, so this summer when we had more rain, I never complained. I’m a gardener, after all, so I especially appreciate the rain. But the past week, we had more rain than we could stand, especially for a three-year-old who needs to get outside and expend some energy. I began complaining. Then it kept raining, and it started flooding. I stopped complaining because I am a lucky one whose house was far from danger. Then when the rain began to take lives, I was struck with a terrible sadness and awareness that we are all weak in the force of Nature, who doesn’t discriminate against anyone.
