My three-year-old has been collecting these seeds from our dogwood tree. (Or are they berries?) This is the first sign of Autumn in our yard. The trees are not turning color yet, but the weather is cooler, acorns are falling and these have appeared on the dogwood tree. My son loves to collect acorns, seeds, grapes, berries....anything round and ripe. When he was younger I loved to photograph his pudgy hands as they wrapped around an acorn. Now he brings me the seeds, and I must hold them. I cannot put them down in the grass, and if I tell him my hand hurts, he tells me to put them in the other hand. He’s getting too smart for me.
I wonder if we save them and plant them in the spring, would we get more dogwood trees? Definitely worth a try!
